What is Maundy Thursday?
We probably know that it’s the day before Good Friday, but do we know what happened on that day and why it’s important?
Maundy Thursday is part of the Christian celebration of Easter and marks the night of the Last Supper as told in the Bible.
The word ‘Maundy’ comes from the the Latin word meaning ‘command’, because, at the Last Supper, Jesus commanded that people should love one another. He then washed the feet of his disciples as an act of service.
On Thursday 6th April at 6pm, there will be a Maundy Thursday Communion service at St. Catwg’s, which will include the traditional Stripping of the Altar – the removing of all ornaments and linens, an ancient custom symbolic of the humiliation of Jesus at the hands of the soldiers.
You are very welcome to join us for this simple service.
